    Challengers
    Start 2008 Season
    The New Mexico Little League Challenger Division opens its 2008 season with four games Saturday.
    The baseball league, headed by Edgewood's Jennifer Burns, is for special-needs kids. Their challenges range from visual handicaps to a variety of intellectual and motor-function impairments.
    The season openers include:
   

Pirates vs. White Sox at Atrisco Valley Little League's fields, 9 a.m.
   

Rockies vs. Indians at Thunderbird Little League, 10 a.m.
   

Red Sox vs. A's at Mile High Little League, noon.
   

Dodgers vs. Mariners at Yucca Little League in Bosque Farms, 10:30 a.m.
    The season runs through May 24.
    For information on participating in or helping the children play in this league, call Burns at 281-4645.
    Moriarty Student
    Wins Sports Award
    Moriarty High senior Jacki Bailey was one of 12 students who were recently presented the New Mexico Activities Association Sportsmanship Award.
    Bailey got a $1,000 scholarship from the NMAA Foundation, the organization's spokesman, Robert Zayas, said.
    Bailey was recognized during the state basketball tournament at the University of New Mexico's Pit last month. She also was praised at a banquet.
    Bailey is the first Pinto to receive the accolade.
    "It was fun," she said. "I was honored."
