      Estancia Hosts First Mini-Ironman The inaugural Estancia Mini-Ironman competition will be held on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the town's outdoor swimming pool, event coordinator Jody Weidner said.
       The athletes will start with a half-mile swim at the pool. The race will then move to a 10-mile bicycle race, which will start near the pool. The bike segment will head north on N.M. 41 and loop back around to the pool. A concluding 3-mile run/jog/walk will wind its way through Estancia.
       There will be women's, men's and youth (18-and-under) divisions in individual and 3-racer team categories.
       Winners will be awarded medals. All competitors will receive a free lunch and a T-shirt.
       Cost is $15 per participant. Proceeds will support the Estancia Bearacudas, said Weidner, also the local youth swimming club's coach.

       AYSO Registration June 7 and 28 The East Mountain boys and girls league of the American Youth Soccer Organization will hold registration sessions for the fall 2008 season June 7 at Edgewood Elementary School and June 28 at Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras, according to a news release from the local entity's spokesman, Todd Alam.
       The registration periods will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. For information, see the organization's Web site at www.eastmountainsoccer.org.

       Lady T'Wolf Makes All-Metro Squad Savanna Hands, the East Mountain High girls basketball team's junior point guard, was named to the State Farm All-Metro small-school first team, according to a news release from Lady Timberwolves coach Jim Pendergast.
       Hands, a heady dribbler and passer, led Class 2A in scoring much of the season with a 15.8 points-per-game average.
      
       Girls Hoops Camps Planned for June Moriarty High will host its annual basketball camp for girls in grades 8-12 beginning Monday and continuing through June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon each day, at the school's All-Sports Practice Facility, according to a news release from athletic director Joe Butler.
       Emphasis is on shooting and ball handling.
       In addition, a hoops camp for girls in grades 1-6 will be held at the school June 16-19, 10 a.m. to noon each day. Emphasis is on basic skills.
       Each camp costs $30.

       Lokomotiv Girls Fall in Title Game Albuquerque Girls Soccer Club Lokomotiv, a competitive team composed mostly of East Mountains kids, took second place in the Durango (Colo.) Shootout in the under-12 silver-bracket division on May 10-11.
       The squad advanced to the championship game after going 3-0 in pool play, per a news release from Lokomotiv coach Stan McCoy. They fell 3-1 in the title tilt to a team from Arizona.
       The team began its spring season in the Duke City Soccer League by winning a relegation match which moved them up into the Challenge I bracket of the metro area's premier schedule. Lokomotiv finished in 10th place at U12 with a 2-2-1 record.
      
       Boys Hoops Camp Around the Bend The Pinto Basketball Camp of Champs for Boys will be held June 16-19 at the Moriarty High School All-Sports Practice Facility, according to a news release from the school's varsity boys coach, Frank Gonzalez.
       The camp, for children in grades 1-8, will run from 8 to 11 a.m. each day. Cost for each participant is $50, and preregistration is encouraged.
       Emphasis is basic skills instruction. Campers must have tennis/basketball shoes, T-shirt, and, if possible, their own basketball.

       Volleyball Camp Slated for August Moriarty High will hold its annual summer volleyball camp, for girls in grades 7-12, at the Pintos' All-Sports Practice Facility on Aug. 4-7 from 1-4 p.m. each day, according to a news release from the school's athletic department.
       The fee for participation is $70. Emphasis is on skills instruction and playing.
