          Vista Grande Hosts Tourneys, 3K
        The Deputy James McGrane East Mountain Celebration, to be held Sept. 5-7 at Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park, will feature several open-to-the-public athletic events.
        The double-elimination youth basketball tournament, for 17-and-under boys and girls teams, will be conducted Sept. 5-7 at the new Fisher and Smith Memorial Gymnasium located at the community center's complex. Cost is $200 per team. Deadline is Tuesday..
        The all-ages 3-kilometer trail run/walk will be held on Sept. 7. Adult participation fee is $20 if paid by Tuesday,, $30 on race day. For youth, 15-and-under, it's $10, $20 on day of event.
        The double-elimination adult (18-and-over) softball tourney, with men's, women's and coed divisions, is scheduled for Sept. 6-7. Cost is $200 per team. Deadline is Tuesday.. All teams must have current Amateur Softball Association insurance.

        T'Wolves Open 2008 Season
        The East Mountain High boys soccer team will play Santa Fe's Desert Academy in the Timberwolves' home opener at Vista Grande Community Center on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
        The EMHS girls will travel to Bloomfield to play the Bobcats in the Lady T'Wolves first game of the season on Sept. 6 at 11 a.m.
        Ranch Sorting Event Continues
        The Moriarty Heritage Arena Ranch Sorting 3-part competition will continue on Sept. 6 and Oct. 4.
        The competition will start at 9 a.m. both days, the event's promoter, Roger Clyde said. For information, call Clyde at 307-5576.
        High School Rodeo Slated for Fiesta
        The Moriarty High School Rodeo will be held Oct. 10 and 11 at the city's Heritage Arena, according to Don Martinez, the adult sponsor of the Moriarty and Estancia High School Rodeo Club.
        The competition, scheduled in conjunction with the Moriarty Pinto Bean Fiesta, will begin at 9 a.m. both days.
        Participants must be of high school age and have at least a 2.0 grade-point average. All public and private school pupils and home-schooled students are welcome to compete at the annual event.

        Local Shooter Garners Gold
        Manzano High junior Katie Fuller won her age group's gold medal in three-position air-rifle shooting in the State Games of the West at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs on July 27.
        Fuller, who lives in the Sedillo area, also got the silver in the women's international standing category. She is the captain of the Monarchs' Navy Junior ROTC shooting team.
        Schools Seek Football Players
        It's not too late if you're in the seventh, eighth or ninth grades to sign up and play for the Moriarty High freshman or Moriarty Middle School football teams, Pintos coach Bob Allcorn said.
