All-Star Enjoys Last Hurrah Sayonara. Adios. Auf Wiedersehen.
Estancia High's Chelsea Riley finished her prep career as part of the cream of the crop. The 5-foot-4 first baseman and center fielder played for the victorious North team during the Class 1A-2A-3A all-star series at Cobre High in Bayard on June 13-14.
“It was great just to be nominated for all-stars,” said Riley, who will attend the University of New Mexico this fall. “It seemed like more of the 2A players got to go this year because the 4A and 5A teams didn't dominate so much.”
Lady Bears assistant coach Stella Dominguez was the North's head coach. Michael Dominguez, the EHS head coach, was his wife's all-stars assistant.
Estancia third-baseman Jaime Montoya also was an all-star.
“It was a lot of fun,” Riley said. “And it was nice that we knew our coaches. It was like Jamie's and my final game with them, and their final game with us. It was wonderful to be there with them.”
Riley was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run in the first game, a 9-3 victory for the North. Montoya was 1-for-4 with a run.
