      Pintos' Chavez Headed To Vegas
Moriarty High baseball player Nick Chavez, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound second baseman, said Tuesday he recently tried out for the Luna Community College team and will be playing the infield for the Rough Riders, whose campus is in Las Vegas, N.M., next school year.
   
    Little League Title Games Saturday
East Mountain Little League's rookies (6- to 8-year-olds) and minors (9-12) age-group championship baseball games will be played Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on the league's home fields at Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park.
    EMLL's end-of-season celebration and ceremony will start at noon on Saturday, also at Vista Grande, according to a news release from the league's president, Karen Demarest. Food, a dunk tank, raffle prizes, skills contests as well as board-member elections will highlight the festivities, which precede the District 5 all-stars baseball and softball tournaments, tentatively scheduled to begin near the end of this month.
   
    Moriarty Needs Baseball Coach
Moriarty High School is looking for a new baseball coach, per a news release from the school's athletic director, Joe Butler.
    Pintos coach Michael Chavez resigned at the end of the 2008 season. He said he is moving to Texas to take a new job.
    Moriarty was 19-10 overall, 10-5 in District 5-4A this past spring. The Pintos, who were the state runners-up in 2007, advanced to the state quarterfinals this year.
    Application deadline for the vacant position is July 25. Call 832-5947 for information.
   
    Middle School Coaches Sought
Moriarty Middle School needs three football coaches, Moriarty High coach Bob Allcorn said.

    Boys Hoops Camp Around the Bend
The Pinto Basketball Camp of Champs for Boys will start Monday and continue through June 19 at the Moriarty High School All-Sports Practice Facility, according to a news release from the school's varsity boys coach, Frank Gonzalez.
    The camp, for children in grades 1-8, will run from 8 to 11 a.m. each day. Cost for each participant is $50, and preregistration is encouraged.Emphasis will be on basic skills instruction. Campers must have tennis/basketball shoes, T-shirt, and, if possible, their own basketball.

    Girls Hoops Camp Starts Monday
Moriarty High's girls basketball camp for girls in grades 1-6 at the school's All-Sports Practice Facility begins Monday and continues through June 19, 10 a.m. to noon each day.
    Emphasis is on learning basic skills. Camp participant cost is $30 each.

    AYSO Registration Set for June 28
The East Mountain boys and girls league of the American Youth Soccer Organization will hold a registration session for the fall 2008 season on June 28 at Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras, according to a news release from the local entity's spokesman, Todd Alam.

    Volleyball Camp Slated for August
Moriarty High will hold its annual summer volleyball camp, for girls in grades 7-12, at the Pintos' All-Sports Practice Facility on Aug. 4-7 from 1-4 p.m. each day, according to a news release from the school's athletic department.
    The fee for participation is $70. Emphasis is on skills instruction and playing.
