Telegraph Staff Reports Shockers Finish Summer Season The 8-and-under Estancia Shockers, the Moriarty Baseball League champions and state American Amateur Baseball Congress runners-up, had a good season.
The Roberto Clemente-division team, coached by Antonio Chavez, included Zachary Abeyta, Moises Anaya, Irijah Chavez, Zack Coe, Marcy Hernandez, Alec Lucero, Adrien Lujan, Joseph Modgling, Cruz Moreno, Joseph Newsom, Julian Sanders, Jeremy Silva, Joshua Thomas and Landin Wright.
The roster was provided by the Shockers' team mom, Senaida Anaya.
Heritage Arena Will Host Rodeo The Moriarty Fourth of July Rodeo will be held this weekend at the city's Heritage Arena.
The competition, more of a semipro rather than a junior rodeo as it has been in the recent past, starts on Friday at 2 p.m. and on Saturday at 4 p.m. Events will include bull riding, bareback riding, saddle-bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, ladies breakaway roping, barrel racing and team roping.

Cruces Headed To 11U World Series The Las Cruces Rhinos defeated the Espaρola Angels 11-0 in the championship game of the state American Amateur Baseball Congress 11-and-under, Gil Hodges-division tournament at Moriarty's sports complex on Sunday.
It was great, Rhinos coach Oscar Padilla said. They had a rough regular season. In our (Las Cruces) league we played up (at 12U), but they came around at the end. I'm proud of them.
The victory qualified the Cruces boys for the AABC 11U World Series to be played in Brooklyn, N.Y., in August. No local teams were entered in the state 11U competition.
Duran's Hindi 3rd in Tombstone Race Rached Hindi, who hails from the southeast Torrance County community of Duran, took third place in the over-35 division of the 28th Billy the Kid Tombstone Race in Fort Sumner on June 14, according to the De Baca County News.
Hindi was the three-time defending champion in the over-35 category. This year, he carried a 20-pound stone for 50 yards of the 100-yard shuttle course that included a 5-foot obstacle in 31.52 seconds.
Hindi earned $125 for his efforts.
Stanley's Frank Shanley, who won the open-division title in 2006 and '07, was disqualified in the finals after finishing third in preliminary heat No. 1 with a time of 36.83 as he carried an 80-pound piece of marble for half the length of the 100-yard course. He won the event in 35.84 last year.
Colby Greenwalt of Clovis was the overall winner with an event-record clocking of 31.82. Greenwalt pocketed $2,500 for the victory.
Donney Harper and Ryan Collier, both of Edgewood, respectively placed first and third in heat No. 3 of the open preliminaries. The top eight times from the preliminaries heats advanced to the finals.

The fee for participation is $70. Emphasis is on skills instruction and playing.

Reds Take EMLL's Rookies Division East Mountain Little League's Reds won the EMLL rookies-division title with an 11-1 victory over the Athletics at Vista Grande Community Center's fields on June 14.
The champion Reds, per a news release from coach Brian Bagon, included Brandon Bagon, Troy Batie, Tyler Batie, Zachary Batie, Ian Catanach, Jack Christansen, Matthew Deiterman, Donovan Griego, Christopher Jones-Salas-Stark, Dakota Powell, Jeremy Riester, Riley Tarman, Alejandro Taylor-Wright and Eric Zimmerer.
Moriarty Needs Baseball Coach Moriarty High School is looking for a new baseball coach, according to a news release from the school's athletics director, Joe Butler.
Pintos coach Michael Chavez resigned at the end of the 2008 season. He said he is moving to Texas to take a new job.
Moriarty was 19-10 overall, 10-5 in District 5-4A this past spring. The Pintos, who were the state runners-up in 2007, advanced to the state quarterfinals this year.
