Letters to the Editor
Sir Brennan, We
Salute Your Work
We all hear about and experience "biased" media: a myriad of slandered articles full of biased opinions ultimately trying to sway ours to meet theirs.
Whether it's from reading a morning newspaper or watching the news, our morals and values are constantly being challenged. However, in Torrance County we have been very lucky not to have experienced such media voiced in our local paper, The Mountain View Telegraph.
We have been fortunate to have an editor who has ensured that our local stories and events are described as they occur. Sure, he wrote a personal column, in which he would discuss how he reacted to various situation to make us laugh or share a thought, but always with humility and kindness, never with malice or contempt. His articles were an avenue for him to share an event that happened to him, personal to him, so we could see that he had some of the same experiences and feelings that we do. He also wanted us to share our opinions, always soliciting our thoughts and views in the Telegraph, and at times when those opinions were not popular or were even considered harsh, they were never distorted or changed to his or a writer's personal preference.
John Brennan has been nothing short of a professional, classy, and gracious editor, always bringing balance in a diverse area, where agriculture and inner-city issues, and numerous other matters are important topics to be covered. He has done an excellent job of representing our community and residents with great respect and dignity. Whether it's highlighting our local farmers with their bean and corn crops, highlighting our kids' accomplishments, covering the horrific details of a crime, or writing about the new legal woes in regard to the biomass plant business venture, he has overseen every column or article with great and unequaled editorial sense a sense of fairness about what's right and equitable to his public.
He has a team of writers who respect him, respect which he has earned. Because of his fair and honorable way of conducting business, his staff performed admirably under his leadership. They worked hard for him, because they respect him, an honor he has earned. Now that Sir Brennan is leaving and Rory is taking over, that legacy will continue. Our community is in great hands and be assured the Mountain View Telegraph will continue to report the news and events as they happen and not as the editor or writers choose.
Sir John Brennan, you are to be commended for doing a great job and our hats are off to you and your staff: Harold Smith, Laura Nesbitt, Lee Ross, Beverly Trujillo, Alexandra Roberts, Connie Sanchez-Wilson, and Kitty Watkins. We welcome you back, Rory, look forward to your column, sharing your personal stories, thoughts, and opinions, and know you're going to do a great job!
