Team Appreciates
Town's Support
I WOULD LIKE to take the opportunity on behalf of the Moriarty High School volleyball team and coaching staff to personally thank the parents, MHS staff and students, community and businesses for their continuing support.
This has been such an incredible season and we could not have done it without your help. Your attendance and cheering during our matches was such an encouragement and inspiration to us. The ongoing support and financial contributions toward our championship rings is appreciated beyond words.
Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!
I consider it both an honor and privilege to represent the cities and communities of Moriarty and Edgewood.
Respectfully,
KIM BELL

Proposed Hikes
Have No Basis
AFTER RECEIVING the December 2007 publication of the Enchantment and reading the "Notice to Ratepayers" by Central New Mexico Electric (CNME), I want to strongly protest and dispute the proposed changes.
As in the past the proposed changes again target the Electric Thermal Storage Unit (ETS) owners. If Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association has raised CNME's cost, then we have the right to know what the increase is in precise numbers and the cost should be to all customers. This information has not been given. If CNME cannot give us these numbers then they have no basis for this business decision.
We also should be told when the Tri-State changes became effective and what the direct additional cost is to CNME. CNME is not supposed to increase the cost to the ETS customer more than their increase by Tri-State.
I feel the proposed changes to be a subterfuge to allow CNME to implement a rate increase without stating and justifying what the rate increase will be to the ETS customers. If my calculations are correct the changes could raise our ETS cost anywhere from 10 percent in the summer to 25 percent in the winter. It would appear that CNME is trying to implement a procedural change and circumvent publishing the effective increase to the ETS customer.
I would like to see the proposed changes be tabled until CNME has scheduled and publicized an open forum meeting with all ETS customers so that these concerns and disputes caused by the proposed changes can be resolved. It is my understanding that a meeting with commercial customers occurred on Dec. 12, 2007. Residential customers deserve the same consideration. I would like a representative from the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission to attend this meeting with CNME.
Respectfully,
DENTON L. SNYDER

Admiral's Actions
Are Respectable
THERE ARE quite a few retired generals and admirals criticizing George Bush and the way he has handled the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Some have even written books on the subject.
There is, however, an admiral who isn't waiting till he retires to be at odds with Bush's policies. He is chief of the Central Command (CENTCOM). His name is William Fallon. Before U.S. Intelligence revealed Iran had stopped their nuclear weapons program in 2003, he was ordered by the White House to send another aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf. He replied there are already two carriers in the Gulf and we don't need another. It would only send a signal to Iran that we were getting ready to attack them. He went on to say, "We are not going to attack Iran on my watch," implying he would quit first.
Admiral Fallon has been adamantly against the surge and calls it a complete failure. He is for pulling most of our troops out now. He can't stand General Petraeus, who he considers to be always trying to ingratiate himself to his superiors ...
You have to admire a man like Admiral Fallon. I know I do. He's my hero.
