      MICHAEL KESSLER
    Michael Kessler, 45, of Corona passed away May 29 in Alamogordo.
    Michael was born December 14, 1962, in Vaughn, N.M. to Bill and Jeanne Marie (Babb) Kessler and grew up in the Albuquerque/Edgewood area. Michael graduated from Moriarty High School in 1980. He met his ex-wife, Renee Kessler, in Ft. Sumner, and they married in 1982 and moved to Corona and lived there for approximately 20 years.
    Michael became a Hot Shot for the Mountainair Ranger District. He began moving up the ladder, moving to Tijeras and Grants and then transferred to the National Park Service in Grants and also Georgia. Michael moved to Alamogordo two years ago and ran his small engine and repair shop from his home there. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Marie Kessler. He is survived by his father, Bill Kessler; daughters, Julie and husband Keith Fike of Rio Rancho; April and husband Cesar Arrellanes of Corona; and Amy Kessler of Hobbs; brothers, Billy Kessler; Jim Kessler and wife Molly; sister Kim Padilla; uncle and aunt, Bob and Zola Kessler of Kansas; aunts, Carol McConnell and Betty Lewis; uncle Charlie Babb and wife Robin; five grandchildren; Ronnie, KJ, Katie, Jessica and Emily; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; ex-wife Renee and former companion Marian McAdams.
    A graveside service was held June 2 at the Corona Cemetery in Corona. Pastor Barney Cabajal officiated. Pallbearers were Keith Fike, Cesar Arrellanes, Jeremy Neff, Jim Kessler, Billy Kessler, and Dion Koen.

    DONALD LEE MALONE
    Donald Lee Malone, 50, of Moriarty passed away May 26.
    Donald was born on June 15, 1957, in Augsburg, Germany, to Otis Lee Malone and Bobbye Coleman. Donald married Jennifer Wallis on October 31, 2006. He was preceded in death by his father. Donald is survived by his mother, Bobbye Malone Arnold; wife, Jennifer Malone; son, Edward Malone and sister, JoAnn Marbet. Arrangements for cremation entrusted to

    JAMES ERNEST MCMICHAEL
    James Ernest McMichael died May 30. He was born in Cason, Texas, on March 18, 1915, to James Young and Elsa Lilla Stokes McMichael. He graduated from Daingerfield High School and the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in mechanical engineering. Before and after World War II, he taught mechanical engineering as well as aerodynamics and aircraft structures at Tulane University, the University of Texas, and the University of Oklahoma. James was a veteran of World War II. He entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. reserve officer May 1, 1942, and was a captain when he was released from service on February 10, 1946.
    Subsequently, he worked at the Ordinance Aero Physics Laboratory as a research analyst with Convair Aircraft Company in East Texas. In 1968, he transferred to the Ft. Worth division of General Dynamics, where he remained until his retirement in 1982. During his career he helped develop many guided missiles, worked as a thermal engineer, and participated in the design of the F-16 and other important components of national defense and space exploration. In 1938, James married Wilda Johnson. They were married for 27 years. Wilda was a wife and homemaker. She predeceased him in 1965.
    He married Vashti Hooton Irvin in 1973. James and Vashti McMichael moved to New Mexico in 1985. They participated in local, state and national Senior Olympics for many years. He served as Torrance County Senior Olympics Coordinator for 13 years, and he was a volunteer for many other organizations. He was an active member of the Church of Christ in Mountainair.
    Mr. McMichael is survived by his wife, Vashti Hooton Irvin McMichael of Mountainair; son Terry and wife Lee McMichael of Plano, Texas; son Lee McMichael of Ft. Worth, Texas; step-daughter Dianne and husband Ron Doan of San Patricio, N.M.; step-daughter Elaine and husband Ray Darnell of Mountainair; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Montgomery of Hideaway, Texas; brother Tom and wife Evelyn McMichael of Austin, Texas; brother W. J. and wife Maurine McMichael of Denver; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the stillbirth of an infant son; a sister, Norma McMichael; and a step-daughter, Carol Holderman.
    Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Cotten-Bratton Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, Texas. Graveside services and burial were at Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas, on June 4. Memorial contributions may be made to Foster's Children's Home, P.O. Box 978, Stephenville, TX 76401, or to the American Cancer Society.
    There will also be a Memorial Service at the Mountainair United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. Family and friends of Jim and Tish McMichael are invited to share in a celebration of his life.
   
    WILLIAM “CARL” CANNON
    William “Carl” Cannon, 95, of Moriarty passed away on May 30 at his home in Moriarty with his loving family beside him.
    Carl was born on April 18, 1913, in Tioga, Texas, to Willie Shirley and Edna Mae (Brown) Cannon. Carl married Eleuteria V. “Teddie” Vigil on December 7, 1949, in Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorine Cravens; Merle Shields; and nephew, Phillip William Cravens. Carl is survived by his wife, Teddie Cannon of Moriarty; nephews, Lamar B. Cravens and wife Miree of Moriarty; LeRoy Carl Craven and wife Mercedes of Encino and numerous other nieces and nephews.
    A viewing was held June 3 at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary Chapel in Moriarty. Funeral Services were held on June 4 at the Moriarty Heritage Rodeo Arena; Charles Puckett officiated, a reception followed at the Moriarty Civic Center. Interment was at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lamar Cravens, LeRoy Cravens, Mark Cravens, Buddy Dunn, Melesio Griego and Joseph Lujan. Honorary pallbearers were members of the American Legion.

    JOE E. LUCERO
    Joe E. Lucero, 67, of Manzano passed away June 1 at his home with his loving family beside him.
    Joe was born August 3, 1940, to Jose B. and Josefita (Montoya) Lucero in Albuquerque. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Jose, and his sister, Mary Carson. He is survived by his mother, Josefita, of Albuquerque; son, Emmanuel Lucero and wife Renee of California; daughter Christine Lucero of Isleta, N.M.; brothers, Anthony Lucero; Richard Lucero and wife Josie; Manuel Lucero and wife Lucille; sisters, Connie Zamora and husband Gilbert; Mela Lopez and husband Jakie; Theresa Coddens and husband Jerry; Esther Saenz and husband Leo; five grandchildren, Shantel Lucero; Rochella Lucero; Noel Lucero; Patrick Chavez; and Marcelina Joe; two great-grandchildren; Isaac Livingston; Arinania Gantar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    A rosary will be recited June 4 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Manzano. A mass will be celebrated today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Father Ron Stone will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Manzano Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Manuel Lucero, Richard Lucero, Anthony Lucero, Jake Lopez, Jerry Coddens, Gilbert Zamora and Leo Saenz. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Livingston, Kyle Gantar, Johnny Baca and Matthew Lucero.

    WILLARD L. SODDERS
    Willard L. Sodders, 63, of Albuquerque passed away on May 30 in Mountainair.
    Willard was born on June 23, 1944, in Waltham, Mass. to Willard and Mildred (Swisher) Sodders. Willard married Sarah Umfleet in Vincennes, Ind., on October 14, 1973. He was preceded in death by his mother. Willard is survived by his father, Willard Sodders; wife Sarah Sodders; son, Bradley L. Floote; and brothers, George Sodders; Joe Sodders; Jack Sodders and Mike Sodders.
