    Dinner Theater
    At Wildlife West
    The East Mountain Community Theatre will present a musical murder mystery dinner theater show at Wildlife West Nature Park for three weekends starting Friday.
    Performances of "Murder on the Salty Dog" by Richard Atkins are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday as well as Oct. 19-20 and 26-27 in the barn at Wildlife West.
    In the play, an old fishing vessel fallen into disrepair is renovated into a luxury passenger cruiser. On its maiden voyage, someone is murdered and the mystery unfolds.
    Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and students and $18 for children under 12. Tickets include dinner and admission to the park.

    Movie 'Chamber
    Of Secrets' Friday
    Free Friday Night Movies returns to the Moriarty Community Center this week.
    Friday's feature is the PG-rated "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." The show runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and drinks and snacks are sold.

    Meatloaf Medley
    At VFW Friday
    The monthly Second Friday Dinner by the VFW Auxiliary on Friday will be a Meatloaf Medley.
    The event begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. at the VFW Post Home at mile marker 22 on N.M. 41.

    Blood Drive At
    Pinto Bean Fiesta
    The Moriarty Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a blood drive in conjunction with the annual Pinto Bean Fiesta on Saturday.
    The United Blood Services Bloodmobile will be taking donations of blood from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each donor will receive a prize and a $5 coupon to be used at any local business.
    Cholesterol testing will also be offered for all blood donors. Donors should bring a picture ID and drink plenty of water and have a good meal before donating blood.

    Green Gathering
    Includes Site Tour
    The annual Permaculture Gathering in Edgewood is scheduled for Saturday at the home of Christian Meuli.
    The free gathering will include a site tour of a variety of water harvesting and forest thinning practices, gray-water systems, passive solar energy construction and a rainwater cistern.
    Author Ma'ikwe Schaub Ludwig will present a talk about her latest book at 4 p.m.
    Site tours will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a potluck at 2:30 p.m. At 3:45 p.m. Meuli will talk about "The Process of Personal Transition in Times of Change."
    Ludwig, who has been working in sustainability for over 20 years, is a driving force behind Zialua Ecovillage in Albuquerque and uses food to bring people together. She is a workshop leader and speaker for conferences throughout the United States.
    She is the author of the recently published "Passion as Big as a Planet: Evolving Eco-Activism in America." She is a mom and has a lifelong commitment to personal growth and spiritual exploration.
    Anyone planning to attend is asked to bring friends and children, your favorite dish to share and your finest sunhat. Please carpool and leave dogs at home.

    Kids Can Read To
    Dogs at Library
    Children of all ages are invited to Read to the Dogs at the East Mountain Library on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
    Children should check in at the information desk to be assigned to a dog and to get a bookmark if they don't have one yet. The children will receive a photo sticker of each dog they read to.
    The Bookbear Story Club (a preschool storytime for ages 3-5) meets Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. through Nov. 7 at the library. Storycraft for all ages will meet Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Nov. 28 through Dec. 12.

    Class on Financial
    Freedom Offered
    The First Baptist Church of Moriarty will host a six-week class called "Road to Financial Freedom: Your Personal Journey" starting Sunday.
    The class is created to inspire those who attend to make the right choices regarding money and possessions.
    The classes will be held on Sunday mornings through Nov. 18, at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

    Open-Air Market
    Season Ending
    The Tijeras Open-Air Arts Market will host its last show of the season Saturday and Sunday.
    The market has a juried arts and crafts show, live music, demonstrations and more. Admission is free.
