Founded in 1994, the 14-man chorus performs a repertoire of medieval to contemporary music. The membership is diverse, ranging from professional to avocational musicians, all of whom are an auditioned, select group. The chorus director is David Poole, and the Albuquerque-based group has received much critical acclaim.
The theme this year is "For Love of Song," a concert in praise of singing and songs. In the event of rain, the show will be moved to the Mountainair Elementary School gymnasium.
This is a free concert. It is recommended that everyone bring a chair or cushion and come early, as the popular concert draws a large crowd.
This concert is presented with the support and cooperation of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. For more information, call 847-2892.
Church Holds Its
Holy Cross Day
The Church of the Holy Cross will celebrate the Feast Day of the Holy Cross on Sunday with a special service and a potluck following the 10 a.m. service.
The special music will include bagpipes. All are welcome to attend.
The celebration of Holy Cross Day dates back to Sept. 14, 335, when Constantine's Shrine, consisting of a church and a basilica, was dedicated in Jerusalem. The shrine houses a relic, believed to be the True Cross of the Crucifixion, found during excavations directed by Helena, who was the mother of the first Christian Roman Emperor, Constantine.
The date was chosen to coincide with the date suggested for the dedication of Solomon's Temple (2 Chronicles 7:8-10).
