Coast Into Weekend With Fly-In

Telegraph Staff Report
The 16th annual Land of Enchantment Fly-In will return to the Moriarty Municipal Airport on Saturday and Sunday.
Hosted by the Albuquerque chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the event annually attracts dozens of aircraft ranging from home-built and experimental airplanes to restored vintage planes. The aircraft as well as classic cars are on display at the airport, where visitors can see them close up and talk to the owners and pilots.
This year's fly-in will also include an Octoberfest Recognition and Awards banquet at Moriarty's U.S. Southwest Soaring Museum on Saturday evening, and the Young Eagles Rally on Sunday morning at the airport, where youngsters ages 8-18 can sign up for a free flight with one of the volunteer pilots.
Breakfast by donation, consisting of pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee, will start off each day from 8 to 10 a.m. The aircraft and cars will be on display from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Tours of the soaring museum will be offered at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, and at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Lunch will be available at the airport site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, with a hamburger or hot dog, chips and juice or coffee for $5.
The Octoberfest dinner at the soaring museum starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, and tickets are $45 per person. Door prizes will be awarded as a modified silent auction.
The dinner will be served buffet style, with awards for the aircraft judging scheduled at 7:30. At 8:30 p.m., guest speaker Ted Spitzmiller will talk about the "Impact of Sputnik."
For tickets to the banquet, call (505) 662-7510.
The Young Eagles Rally on Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, offers children between the ages of 8 and 18 an opportunity to learn about aircraft and aviation and get a free airplane ride.
Parents must be present or send a pre-signed registration form for their child. The youngsters will receive an aircraft orientation before the flight and a Young Eagles certificate afterward.
For information on the Young Eagles Rally, call Bob Hartman at 565-2743.
