    Library Selling
    Books on Saturday
    The Edgewood Community Library will hold its next book sale on Saturday.
    On Sept. 1 the library will have a Bag Sale when all books will be $2 a bag.
    Sales are held the first and third Saturdays of each month, weather permitting. The library is located in Pioneer Park, south of Old Route 66 and just east of Smith's supermarket. All proceeds go to support the library.

    Sought for Sale
    The Edgewood Elementary School PTO will host a donation day on Saturday for its rummage sale scheduled for Sept. 8-9.
    Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the school.
    The sale, scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, is intended to raise money primarily for playground improvements.

    Get a Good Look
    At the Night Sky
    The Albuquerque Astronomical Society and the Sandia Ranger District will co-host an evening of free public stargazing in the Manzano Mountains on Saturday and Sept. 8 at Oak Flat Picnic Area.
    The dark skies of the East Mountains and the large telescopes of TAAS astronomers together provide great views of planets, as well as more elusive deep-sky objects such as galaxies, nebulae and star clusters.
    Observing begins at sunset, weather permitting, and is suitable for all ages. Picnic facilities are available for those who would like to come early and adjacent parking is available. Alcoholic beverages and pets are not allowed in the telescope viewing area.
    To get there, take N.M. 337 nine miles south of the Tijeras exit on I-40 and follow the signs to Oak Flat and Juniper Loop.

    Try Outdoor Spin
    Class on Saturday
    Flora White, the spinning class instructor at Cedar Crest Fitness, will host an outdoor spinning event Saturday to introduce new people to the classes.
    Spinning is a fun workout tailored to a wide range of abilities and fitness goals, according to White. The rides on stationary bikes combine expert coaching and inspirational music at the rider's self-directed pace.
    The outdoor event will be at the Turquoise Trail Center from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost of $10 a person includes a one-hour ride, lunch and beverages. There will be three different rides with three different instructors.

    School Benefit
    Run Is Sunday
    The 1st Mountain Chapter of ABATE of New Mexico will hold its annual School Supply Benefit Run on Sunday
    ABATE is an organization that promotes motorcycle safety education, motorcycle awareness and motorcycle training programs.
    The run will begin at Los Altos Park on Eubank north of Interstate 40 in Albuquerque between 10 a.m. and noon, and will stop at various East Mountains locations on its 135-mile route.
    Funds raised will go directly to A. Montoya, Route 66 and San Antonito elementary schools to help purchase much-needed supplies.
    The event will end at the Ponderosa Restaurant on N.M. 337 (South 14) with raffles and other prizes. The Easy Street Blues Band will perform from 2 to 5 p.m.
    All motorcyclists are welcome to join this fun ride through beautiful mountain scenery. For more information, call Mike Baca at 281-5147.
    Sunday School
    Sign-Up Sunday
    Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal will have Sunday School registration and a potluck on Sunday after the 10 a.m. service.
    There will be hot dogs and burgers on the grill; bring your favorite dish. Invite your friends and their children to visit and talk to the teachers.
    Sunday School begins Aug. 26 at 10 a.m.

    Annual School
    Drive Under Way
    East Mountain Friends for Families is conducting its annual Back to School Drive to help local children get ready for school.
    Donation boxes are set up at the Triangle Grocery, Curves, Aspects of Clay, Spears Automotive, Coffee at Dawn, Bank of the West, Turquoise Trail Market and Mountain Video.
    The kids need everything from crayons to tissues to binders, according to a news release from the group.
    Bethel's School
    Drive Under Way
    The Bethel Community Storehouse is conducting its annual school supply drive to help needy children.
    Free school supplies are being distributed to low-income families Tuesday through Friday from noon to 3:45 p.m. at the storehouse. Parents must provide proof of income or a referral, picture ID and proof of residency.
    Donations of supplies for the drive can be dropped off at the storehouse from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
