    Film a Claymation
    Version of 'Hobbit'
    East Mountains resident Kevin Ulrich will present the world premiere of "The Hobbit— a Claymation Masterpiece" on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the East Mountain Library in Tijeras.
    Ulrich has created a claymation film of the popular J.R.R. Tolkien book.

    Old Timer's Day
    Festival on Sat.
    The annual Estancia Old Timer's Day Music Festival has been set for Saturday in Arthur Park.
    The event will include a parade at 11 a.m. down the town's main street, a barbecue at noon and music all day in the park, and volleyball and horseshoes.
    The barbecue costs $6 a plate. Teams can participate in volleyball and horseshoes for a fee.
    Events conclude with a dance at 8 p.m. at the community center. Admission is $5.
    Music will include The Four Pack, a country and western band, from noon to 4 p.m. From 4 to 8 p.m. the Fiddlers & Musicians of N.M. Association, composed of different groups, will play an old-time jamboree.

    Foot, Bike Race
    At Sandia Peak
    The Sandia Peak Challenge, a trail running and bicycle race, will be held Saturday at the Sandia Peak Ski Area.
    The competition includes:
   
  • A 7.2-mile run.
       
  • King/Queen of the Mountain, an 8.3-mile mountain-bike timed ride.
       
  • The Duathlon, an 8.3-mile mountain-bike ride with a 5-kilometer loop run and a concluding 8.3-mile ride.
       
  • A 4.1-mile race/hike.
       
  • A 2-mile fun run/hike.
        Money raised will help fund the state's certified cystic fibrosis care center.

        Kids' Archaeology
        Day Set for Sat.
        The Sandia Ranger District will host another Children's Archaeology Day on Saturday.
        The day will include activities at the Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site and a field trip to Sandia Cave. Participants should bring a sack lunch and water, and wear old clothes, a hat, sunscreen and hiking shoes.
        The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the fee is $10 per child ages 9-14. Sign up by calling 281-3304.
