Lifetime Fitness Opens Doors in Moriarty
By Laura Nesbitt
Mountain View Telegraph
No more excuses about having to drive to Albuquerque to go to the gym.
Lifetime Fitness is a new fitness center that just opened on Old Route 66 in Moriarty. Owners Arnie and Lana Leidy rent space from the Church of the Nazarene.
"There weren't any gyms out here," Arnie Leidy said. "If people wanted to work out at a gym they'd have to drive to Albuquerque."
The new gym has a combination of strength training equipment and cardiovascular exercise machines. Leidy, who is certified as a trainer through the National Board of Fitness Examiners, said maintaining good health requires both.
He makes sure new members are sufficiently informed about the equipment before using the gym, and his knowledge is part of the membership package.
"I stay with them for two or three weeks until they understand their program," said Leidy said, who is also available for hire as a personal trainer.
The gym has free weights, multistation equipment, a treadmill and elliptical and recumbent bikes.
Members can also buy supplements, protein powders and thermogenic products for weight and fat loss, although Leidy cautions against trying to lose weight through diet alone.
"They might lose weight, but part of what they lose is muscle, so metabolism drops and then it's harder to lose again," he said.
The center has men's and women's changing rooms with lockers and bathrooms.
Their first member was a man in his 90s.
The gym opens at 6 a.m. every day but Sunday. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, closing time is 9 p.m. The center closes at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
Either Arnie or Lana is there to answer questions Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are also available by appointment.
Quarterly, monthly or annual memberships are available. Call 832-5113 for more information.
