BearWatch Hosts
Annual Meeting
Sandia Mountain BearWatch will host its annual meeting and picnic at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Doc Long picnic area on the Sandia Crest Highway.
BearWatch members and other members of the public are invited.
Cibola National Forest wildlife biologist Bill Falvey will talk about his insights and adventures with bears, and a representative of Animal Protection of New Mexico will talk about evolving cougar management in New Mexico.
Visitors should bring a sack lunch and folding chair. BearWatch will provide cold drinks and goodies.

Workshop Covers
Property Taxes
Concerned Citizens Inc. will present a property tax workshop on Saturday in McIntosh.
The workshop starts at 9 a.m. at the McIntosh Community Center.
Guest speakers will include Tim Eichenberg, director of property taxes for the state Department of Taxation and Revenue, and Torrance County Assessor Jim Shields.
Subjects to be covered are tax exemptions and valuations. Participants should bring their 2006 and 2007 valuations from Torrance County.

Heritage Award
Honors Resident
Vernie Wells, a lifelong resident of Gran Quivira, will receive an award from the Mountainair Heritage Foundation on Saturday evening.
The award recognizes Wells, 86, for helping to shape and preserve the history of the community. He will be honored with an evening of music by the Heritage Band.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Dr. Saul Community Center in Mountainair.
Stanley Church
To Install Pastor
The Reverend Richard Hyman will be installed as pastor of Stanley Union Church on Sunday.
The installation will take place during the 11 a.m. morning worship service and will be conducted by the interim pastor, the Reverend Dr. Russell C. Lee of Albuquerque.
Pastor Hyman and his wife, Lynda, moved to Stanley from Clinton, Wis. They are both graduates of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts and have served in several churches.
A reception for the Hymans and a potluck lunch will take place in the Stanley Community Center immediately following the worship service. The public is invited and welcome to attend both events.
Teen Center Now
Open Saturdays
The Moriarty Teen Center is open Saturdays from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Moriarty Community Center, with various activities and events.
A Teen Center Committee works on activities and events for the center. Any youths interested in being a part of the Teen Center Committee can call 832-4406.
