Coalition To Host
Sheriff as Speaker
The East Mountain Coalition of Neighborhood and Landowner Associations will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras.
Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White will be the guest speaker.
The general meeting is open to everyone.
Moriarty Holding
Annual Cleanup
The city of Moriarty will continue its annual cleanup today through Sunday.
The city will help residents and businesses to dispose items by providing roll-off trash containers for free use.
The cleanup events are also an effort to provide residents and businesses more information on the new nuisance ordinance, which the city will begin enforcing in the spring.

GOP Will Meet
The Torrance County Republican Party will meet today at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center in Willard.

SWCD District
Has Open House
The Edgewood Soil and Water Conservation District will host an open house at its new headquarters on Friday.
The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at the building at 2506 Old Route 66 in Moriarty.
A social hour will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The evening's guest speakers, state Sen. Sue Wilson Beffort and state Rep. Kathy McCoy, are scheduled to address the gathering at 6 p.m.
Conservation displays from the district as well as the New Mexico State Forestry Division, U.S. Forest Service, State Land Office and others will be set up, and members of the Edgewood SWCD board of directors will be available.
Mexican Dinner

The Second Friday Dinner by the VFW Auxiliary continues on Friday with a Mexican theme.
The meal starts at 4:30 p.m. at VFW Post 3370 at mile marker 22 on N.M. 41 south of Moriarty.

Museum' Friday
Free Friday Family Movies returns to the Moriarty Community Center this week.
The April feature is the PG-rated "Night at the Museum."
The show starts at 6 p.m. and runs until approximately 7:30 p.m. Drinks and candy will be sold.

State Police Host
Kids Safety Fair
New Mexico State Police will host a Kids Safety Fair on Saturday at Rich Ford in Edgewood.
The event, dedicated to the memory of Thomas Barnhill, a Moriarty High student who recently died after a long battle with cancer, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A Bike Parade will start at 1:30 p.m. and first prize in each of four age categories will be a new bike. Decorate your bike, be creative and don't forget your helmet.
Among the other events and activities planned are Tag your Tots, a car safety seat clinic, a Monster Mural, DWI obstacle course, dog bite prevention, fire safety, rollover simulator, drug awareness information booths, a blood drive, summer parks and recreation information, and information on the Thomas Barnhill Memorial Scholarship.
Live music will be provided by Coalition.

Raptor Class Held
At Wildlife West
A raptor handling class will be held Saturday at Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood.
This professional class, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., personally introduces participants to several species of raptors.

Gallery To Host
Mother's Day Fun
Turquoise Trail Gallery in Cedar Crest will host a Mother's Day event Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Unique gifts by local artists, 10 percent off work of participating co-op members, refreshments and craft demonstrations are planned.

Kids Can Read To
Dogs at Library
Children of all ages are invited to read to the dogs at the East Mountain Library on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
Children should check in at the information desk to be assigned to a dog and to get a bookmark if they don't have one yet. The children will receive a photo sticker of each dog they read to.

Sierra Trio Plays
For Mother's Day
The East Mountain Artists Series will present a Mother's Day concert by The Sierra Trio with guest violinist Rachel Hawn Jacklin on Sunday.
The performance will begin at 3 p.m. at Mountainside United Methodist Church in Cedar Crest.
The concert will feature piano quartets by Schumann and Dvorak.
Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. Children 4 and under are admitted free.

Panel Members
The Moriarty Teen Center is open Saturdays from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Moriarty Community Center, with various activities and events.
