      District Governor Visits Rotary Club
The Rotary District 5520 governor will make a visit to the Rotary Club of Moriarty on Monday.
    Gov. Tom Lindsay is on a swing through Moriarty as he visits all the Rotary Clubs in the district, which covers New Mexico and West Texas.
    Lindsay will focus on Rotary's vision of making communities stronger with emphasis on health and hunger, literacy, water, and continuing efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.
    Lindsay owns a real estate business in Deming and also works as a speech-language pathologist with the Deming Public Schools.
    The visit will occur during the Rotary Club of Moriarty regular meeting at 6 p.m. at El Comedor.
   
    Vacation Bible School Starting
The Stanley Union Church will hold its Vacation Bible School starting on Monday and running through Aug. 8.
    Children ages preschool to sixth grade are welcome to the free school, which will feature games, crafts and bible study.
    Classes will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day.
    The church is located on N.M. 41 just north of the N.M. 472 intersection in Stanley.

    Benefit Dance For Trigo Fire Victims
A benefit dance with live music will be held for victims of the Trigo Fire at the East Heights Moose Lodge 2241 in Albuquerque starting at noon on Aug. 9. For more information, call 315-3355.
   
    Dinner To Fund Political Forum
To fund a political forum before Torrance County's November 2008 general election, Concerned Citizens Inc. and Los Ranchos Grandes y Encantados Property Owners Association are holding an Italian dinner and silent auction Aug. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the McIntosh Community Center.
    The dinner includes a dessert and iced tea or coffee and music by La Rondalla de Albuquerque. Tickets are $10 per person or $5 for children 10 and under.

    Torrance County Fair Coming Soon
The Torrance County Fair is just around the corner.
    On Aug. 16, the county fair parade will kick off events. To participate, line up at the county office complex, known as the old courthouse, at 10 a.m.
    After the parade, the fun will move to the Estancia High School Cafeteria where the 4-H Fair BBQ will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tickets are $6 each. Call 246-4745 for more information.
    After lunch, the livestock sale will take place at the fairgrounds starting at 3 p.m.
   
    Fire Making Demo At Tijeras Pueblo
The Sandia Ranger District's "Sunday Afternoon at Tijeras Pueblo" will continue on Aug. 9 with a fire making demonstration.
    Participants will learn traditional techniques for making fire from Sean Gantt. Participants will learn the bow drill method for building a fire.
    The demonstration will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.
