    Fire Preparedness
    Workshop Saturday
The East Mountain Interagency Fire Protection Association will be hosting a community preparedness workshop on Saturday.
This program will include accounts from the California wildfires about problems encountered when the fire engulfed neighborhoods.
For over 20 years, agencies in the East Mountains have been working with the communities to thin and reduce fuel loads in the area.
Residents need to understand the likelihood of a fire in our area and how to protect homes from wildfires.
The EMIFPA Fire Field Day will be held at Roosevelt Middle School from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Contact Sue Hansen at Sue.Hansen@nm.nacdnet.net or Carol.Moritz@nm.nacdnet.net for reservations.

    1st '08 Book Sale
The Edgewood Community Library will be holding its first book sale of the year on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The library sells excess books to help fund its operations. All sorts of books will be available. Paperback books are priced at 25 cents each and hardcovers cost 50 cents.

    Free Acupuncture
    For Vets Offered
Dr. Ann Morgan of Morgan Oriental Medicine in Edgewood is offering a free acupuncture clinic for all United States veterans.
The program, called "First Fridays for Veterans," is a free clinic the first Friday of every month. The next clinic is scheduled for Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be very helpful for the treatment of pain, and has also shown to be helpful for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I wanted to do something for our Armed Forces veterans who have given so much to our country," Dr. Morgan said.
To schedule an appointment for "First Fridays for Veterans," please give Dr. Ann Morgan a call at 281-9555.
    Bingo To Raise
    Funds for SMA
Desiree's Buddies is hosting a fundraising bingo at the Lions Club in Moriarty at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Desiree's Buddies and Fight SMA are organizations dedicated to raising awareness and money to fight spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease that kills babies.
Those afflicted with SMA have a dramatic loss of strength and in the worst cases, the inability to swallow or breathe, while the child's mind remains unaffected.
Desiree's Buddies is the local chapter of Fight SMA and was named after Erin Weisner's daughter. Weisner is the local chapter president.
The bingo will include door prizes and a raffle, with a grand prize of a digital hearing aid worth nearly $2,000 from Sound Advice Hearing in Edgewood. Snacks and drinks will be available, and all donations are tax deductible. Call 897-2762 or visit www.fightsma.org to learn more.
