Teen Wins Best
Pop Songwriter
East Mountain teenager Marie Paoli recently was named the winner in the Pop category at the finals of the Albuquerque Songwriter Contest sponsored by the Albuquerque Music Association, Grandma's Music, Wall of Sound recording studio and O'Niell's.
Hundreds of local singer-songwriters entered the monthlong contest and competed for numerous prizes awarded by the sponsors to winners in six categories: Americana, Blues/Jazz, Country, Folk, Pop and Rock.
Popular vote at the preliminaries determined who would go on to the finals at Grandma's Music on Feb. 9 to perform in front of a panel of judges.
Paoli won for her original song entitled "Without You," a song she composed last summer. Paoli has been writing original songs and accompanying herself on guitar since the age of 7. She is now 15 years old and a sophomore at Manzano High School.
