      Meeting Teaches Fire Preparedness
The East Mountain Interagency Fire Protection Association will be hosting a fire preparedness meeting for our East Mountains communities today from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Vista Grande Community Center.

    Talk Focuses On Wild Mustangs in the Area
The East Mountain Historical Society will host a talk on Saturday on wild mustangs in New Mexico that descended from horses brought to America by Don Juan de Oņate.
    Leading the talk will be Paul Polechla and Carlos LoPopolo, executive director of the New Mexican Horse Project.
    Polechla, a tracker, biologist and wrangler, will show slides and talk about the horses.
    DNA testing has established that about 15 horses which roam Campbell Ranch land off N.M. 14 are the most genetically pure Spanish breeds out of hundreds tested.
    The free talk will take place at the East Mountain Library in Tijeras at 1:30 p.m.
   
    Crafts Fair Showcases East Mountains Artist
East Mountains artist Shawna Hawk Rose will be exhibiting her sculptures Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the 47th Annual New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair.
    The fair will be held in Albuquerque at New Mexico Expo. The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

    Gene Corbin Is Next In Concert Series
The East Mountain Summer Concert Series continues at Los Vecinos Community Center on Friday with Gene Corbin.
    There will be six free outdoor concerts in all, each featuring a different local band playing country, alternative, rock and Spanish music along with a few other styles. Concerts will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, as well as on July 11, 18 and 25.
    There will be food vendors on-site, and the events are family friendly with no alcohol allowed. Bags may be checked. Parking is at A. Montoya Elementary School, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic lunches. For more information, call Jason Martinez at 314-0240.
   
    Hunter Education Class in Estancia
A complete course in hunter education has been scheduled Saturday and Sunday at Estancia High School.
    This is a comprehensive course of instruction in firearm safety, bow hunting and much more. State law requires anyone under 18 years of age who hunts with a firearm to complete this course. A donation of $5 per student is requested to offset volunteer expense. Class will be limited to 30 students.

    Kids Invited To Learn About Archaeology
A children's Archaeology Day will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Sandia Ranger Station in Tijeras.
    The event includes activities at the Tijeras Pueblos and a field trip to Sandia Cave.
    It is open to children ages 9 to 14. Cost is $10 per child. Space is limited, so call for a reservation at 281-3304.
   
    Public Is Invited To Ham Radio Field Day
The Albuquerque DX Association, an amateur radio club, will participate in the annual American Radio Relay League Field Day on Saturday and Sunday.
    The event will be staged at the Torrance County Park, south of Edgewood.
    Ham radio enthusiasts will gather to fine tune emergency and disaster communications skills.
    Radio operators will set up at the park and try to contact as many similar operations around the country within a 24-hour period.
    The public is encouraged to attend.
