    Section 16 Meeting
    To Be Rescheduled
    A public meeting to discuss playing fields on Section 16 in Edgewood, previously scheduled for today, has been postponed, according to the organization hosting the event.
    The meeting is expected to be rescheduled sometime in December.
    Percussion Group
    To Play Concert
    The East Mountain High School World Percussion and Rhythm ensembles will perform at a free concert at the Roosevelt Middle School gym on Friday at 7 p.m.
    The students will perform a wide variety of musical numbers on many different types of percussive instruments.
    Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted to support the EMHS percussion program. For more information, call EMHS at 281-7400.
    VFW Post Serves
    Italian Dinner
    The VFW Post 3370 Auxiliary will feature an Italian theme for its monthly Second Friday Dinner on Friday.
    Serving begins at 4:30 p.m. at the VFW Post Home at mile marker 22 on N.M. 41 south of Moriarty. The public is invited.

    'Santa Clause 3'
    Free Friday Film
    Free Friday Family Night at the Movies returns to the Moriarty Community Center this week.
    This month's feature is the G-rated "Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause."

    DWI Memorial
    To Unveil Statue
    The Memorial of Perpetual Tears/New Mexico National DWI Victims' Memorial in Moriarty will hold an unveiling ceremony Saturday for "Nesting," a bronze statue for the memorial site.
    The ceremony will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the memorial on North Broadway, off Abrahames Road (the north frontage road of Interstate 40) west of N.M. 41.
    MADD New Mexico will participate in the ceremony and coordinate a candlelight vigil as well as speakers and a vocalist. Luminarias will be set up around the memorial field, and hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be served.
    Holiday Benefit
    At Sanctuary Zone
    The Happy Holiday Band will perform during a holiday benefit for the Sanctuary Zone on Saturday at the Ponderosa restaurant.
    The event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ponderosa, about 10 miles south of Tijeras on N.M. 337 (South 14). The evening will include Christmas carols, singalongs, good food, good cheer and goodwill.
    Christmas Party,
    Meeting Saturday
    Concerned Citizens Inc. and Los Ranchos Grandes y Encantados Property Owners' Association will host their annual meeting and Christmas party Saturday.
    Everyone is invited to the meeting, potluck, gift exchange and silent auction from 2 to 5 p.m. at the McIntosh Community Center.
    The Torrance County Sheriff's Department will speak about holiday safety, and elections for Concerned Citizens will be held.

    Chorus To Sing
    At Baptist Church
    The Mountainair Community Chorus will once again provide a musical celebration of Christmas.
    This year's presentation will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Mountainair Baptist Church.
    The principal work to be presented is a cantata by Joseph and Pamela Martin titled "Season of Wonders, Celebrating the Miracle of Christmas."
    The presentation will also include an original work by Kathleen Ryan Clute, chorus accompanist.
    Holiday Dance
    Benefits Shelter
    People for Pets will hold a benefit Holiday Family Dance on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Moriarty Community Center.
    All proceeds will benefit the Estancia Valley Regional Animal Shelter.
    The cost is $3 a person, $5 per couple and $10 per family.
    Democratic Party
    Meeting Canceled
    The Torrance County Democratic Party's regular third-Sunday meeting scheduled for Dec. 16 has been canceled.
    The next meeting will be Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Williams Memorial Library in Estancia.

    Kids' Program At
    Bethel Church
    Bethel United Methodist Church in Moriarty will host "The Candles of Christmas," a children's program, at 4 p.m. Sunday.
    The event will include a Youth Chocolate Festival and a performance by the Moriarty High School choir The Messengers. Donations will be accepted for the chocolates.
    Lions Club Has
    Santa on Sunday
    Santa Claus will be giving away presents to children from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Moriarty Lions Club building.
    The Lions Club is at 515 Lions Court, off North Broadway.
    The club normally gives presents each year to needy children in the community. But after the club's supply of gifts was stolen from its storage unit last month, an outpouring of donated presents has allowed the club to open the giveaway to any children who would like to attend.
    The Lions Club emphasized that most of the gifts are suitable for children in fourth grade or younger.

    Holiday Milestone
    Madrid's 25th anniversary Christmas celebrations will continue every weekend in December as Madrid businesses host open houses and stay open later than usual.

    Bethel Offers Free
    Christmas Toys
    Free Christmas toys and stockings will be available to low-income families from now through Dec. 21 at the Bethel Community Storehouse in Moriarty.
    The gifts and stockings will be distributed every Tuesday through Friday from noon to 3:45 p.m.
    Requirements are proof of income or a qualified referral, picture ID and proof of residency.
