Telegraph Staff Reports Moriarty Program Gets $27K Grant Torrance County Counseling recently received a grant for $26,958 from ValueOptions New Mexico, the state Medicaid provider, said JoAnn DelCurto, executive director of the Moriarty program.
The money will partially fund a program to provide services for individuals who have been released from prison to help them assimilate into society.
“I'm glad that we have the opportunity to help that portion of the population that's lacking these services,” DelCurto said.
DelCurto expects to receive the funds in the next few weeks. Dog Classes Set For Wednesdays The Moriarty Teen Center and Torrance County 4-H dog classes will be held each Wednesday beginning on June 4.
Two classes will be held. Novice obedience will be held from 6:15 to 7 p.m. and showmanship classes will be held from 7:15 to 8 p.m.
Participants must have proof of vaccinations to register.

ALS Volunteer Honored for Work Deborah I. Gourlay-Basile of Edgewood has been named by the ALS Association's New Mexico Chapter as the person who best exemplifies the spirit of “ALS Across America” for the chapter during ALS Awareness Month in May.
The “ALS Across America” national campaign recognizes people with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, and their caregivers who are role models to others with the disease.
Gourlay-Basile volunteers with the New Mexico chapter and is involved with its activities. She was diagnosed with ALS in 2005.

Theatre Holding Summer Camps East Mountain Community Theatre will be holding youth camps this summer.
A Kids Camp, open to youths ages 6 to 11, will be held July 7 to July 18, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at San Antonito Elementary School. Students will be able to learn about acting, costuming, makeup, directing and technical work. Cost is $250 and includes two healthy snacks each day.
A Teen Camp, open to youths age 12 to 17, will be held from July 21 to Aug. 1, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at East Mountain High School. Cost is $250.

Tri-Chamber Golf Classic Sept. 11 The East Mountain, Edgewood and Moriarty Chambers of Commerce are hosting what is being called the Tri-Chamber Golf Classic on Sept. 11 at Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Club.
The tournament will feature guest speakers on subjects ranging from local interest to Talking Talons to national health care.
Prices range from $150 for an individual to $500 for a team of four, which includes a goody bag and meals. An additional $500 for a group of four pays for company advertising at the clubhouse.

Free Acupuncture For U.S. Veterans Dr. Ann Morgan of Morgan Oriental Medicine in Edgewood is offering a free acupuncture clinic for all U. S. veterans.
The program, called “First Fridays for Veterans,” is a free clinic the first Friday of every month from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be very helpful for the treatment of pain, and has also shown to be helpful for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I wanted to do something for our armed forces veterans who have given so much to our country,” Morgan said.

School Program Needs Volunteers The Aim Higher program at A. Montoya Elementary School is looking for volunteers for the 2008-09 school year.
Aim Higher has adults from the community come in and help first- and second-graders with reading.
No special training is required and training is provided to all new volunteers. Tutoring days are Tuesday through Friday for two 45-minute blocks. Volunteers can choose to tutor one or two days a week.
