      Events Celebrate Thorp Centennial
The Williams Family Memorial Library is sponsoring the Jack Thorp Centennial June 20, 21 and 22 at the fairgrounds in Estancia to celebrate Thorp's “Songs of the Cowboys” published in Estancia in 1908.
Events will include a barbecue, silent auction, cowboy songs and poetry, and a preview of a 30-minute biographical documentary film by Susan Gervasi called “On the Trail of Jack Thorp.”
Carolyn Wells, granddaughter of P.A. Speckmann publisher of “Songs of the Cowboys,” recently died after completing a centennial quilt specially designed for the 100th anniversary of her grandfather's publication of Thorp's book.

The News Print Shop in Estancia, which published Thorp's compilation of songs in 1908, housed the administrative offices of the Estancia Valley Citizen newspaper in the late 20th century.
