The East Mountain Summer Concert Series continues at Los Vecinos Community Center on Friday with Sting Rays, a band that plays a variety of music.
There will be six free outdoor concerts in all, each featuring a different local band playing country, alternative, rock and Spanish music along with a few other styles. Concerts will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, as well as on July 18 and 25.
There will be food vendors on site, and the events are family-friendly with no alcohol allowed. Bags may be checked. Parking is at A. Montoya Elementary School, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic lunches.

    Biannual Drive Supports Troops
The Kirtland Community Civitan Club will be conducting its biannual drive Saturday to collect items in support of the Wounded Warrior program and the Blue Star Mothers.
The club will have two stations for collections, the Wal-Mart at 400 Eubank NE south of Interstate 40 and at Wal-Mart in Edgewood. Collection times will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Wounded Warrior program supplies toiletries, new socks, underwear, pajamas, robes, slippers and other items to military men and women who have been wounded on the battlefield in Afghanistan and Iraq. A portion of the donations will go to the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Bliss in El Paso and the rest will be delivered through the Blue Star Mothers.
Monetary donations will also be collected on behalf of the Blue Star Mothers to assist them in paying for the postage to send the items to the selected areas.
The club will also have special cards for short messages that will be included with the supplies that are sent to the hospitals located around the world.

    Bear Fair Helps Local Wildlife
The Bear Fair is happening Saturday at Wildlife West Nature Park.
For the second year the park is teaming with Sandia Mountain BearWatch to celebrate the largest animal that lives in the Sandia Mountains — the black bear. The goal is to provide information about how to coexist with black bears and other wildlife that reside in the East Mountains, and how to protect their habitat. Experts in the field will share their experiences around bears, and talk about how to camp and hike in bear country. Visitors will get a close-up, behind-the-scenes tour of Koshari, a 350-pound black bear.
Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 for students and children under 12. Children under 5 get in free.
The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, call Wildlife West at 281-7655 or visit www.wildlifewest.org.
