Milestones



      Couple To Marry In Tapia on May 31
       Mike and Barbara Tapia are proud to announce the upcoming marriage of their granddaughter, Kimberly Tapia Trujillo from Portales, to DeeDon Bates of Tularosa on May 31. The wedding will take place at the San Antonio Catholic Church in Tapia, N.M., at 1 p.m., with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. and dance from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Moriarty Civic Center.
      
       Couple Planning July Wedding
       James Randall “Randy” and Reina Brown of Albuquerque and Arthur and Julie Burnette of Edgewood announce the engagement of their daughter, Danielle Burnette, to Phillip Lovato, son of Andrew and Debi Lovato of Albuquerque. Phillip is serving in the U.S. Army and is stationed at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. The couple is planning to marry July 5.
      
       2 Area Students In Honor Society
       Two area students who attend Texas Tech University have been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the country's oldest honor society.
       Scarlett McKenzie, a history major from Encino, and Stephanie Lynn Lyells of Cedar Crest, who is majoring in English and psychology, were inducted into the organization during a special ceremony on the Texas Tech campus April 9.
       Phi Beta Kappa has been in continuous existence since 1776. The organization has chapters in 10 percent of U.S. universities and has more than 600,000 members.
      
       Area FFA Students Get Scholarships
       Three area FFA students have each picked up a $1,000 scholarship.
       Carrie Bullen and Shaylyn Kelly of Moriarty and Jerra McMath of Estancia have each been awarded the scholarship through the Built Ford Tough Trucks/FFA Scholarship program. All three will graduate this spring.
       Bullen plans to study counseling at New Mexico State University. Kelly plans to study animal science at NMSU. McMath plans to study physical therapy at Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas.
