In Estancia, the Fun of the Fair Is in the Air

      You can literally smell it in the air.
       If you happen to be in Estancia, and you happen to be near the fairgrounds, then you know the aroma of fun.
       It's time once again for the Torrance County Fair, which starts Saturday and lasts until Aug. 16 for seven days of rodeo, livestock judging, parades and delicious baked goods.
       
   
Torrance County Fair Schedule
Saturday
8 a.m. to 9 a.m. — Junior rodeo entries
10 a.m. — Time Rodeo
Sunday
8 a.m. — Horse show entries accepted
9 a.m. — 4-H/FFA Horse Show begins at the arena
Monday
1 p.m. — Check in dairy goats
Tuesday
7 a.m. to 10 a.m. — Steers, dairy heifers, goats, rabbits, poultry, hogs and sheep check in
9 a.m. to 7 p.m. — Check in indoor exhibits, except floriculture, which will check in on Wednesday
10 a.m. — Sheep for shepherds wool lead due on fairgrounds
10 a.m. — Livestock weigh in following check-in
10 a.m. — Dairy goat, pygmy goat, packing, harness and fun goat shows followed by an East Torrance Soil and Water Conservation District event
Noon — Exhibitors meeting in show arena
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. — Check in farm mechanics exhibits
6 p.m. — Rabbit show
Wednesday
9 a.m. — Check in commercial booths
9 a.m. — Red Barn exhibits open Wednesday through Saturday, times to be announced
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Indoor exhibits judging, closed to public
9 a.m. to 7 p.m. — Commercial booths open
9 a.m. — Market goat show (open, breeding, junior, Torrance County bred, showmanship)
1 p.m. to 7 p.m. — Check in floriculture exhibits
1 p.m. to 7 p.m. — Indoor exhibits open to the public
1 p.m. — Market lamb show
5 p.m. to 6 p.m. — Market steers required to be on the grounds
7 p.m. — Dairy show
7:30 p.m. — Goat roping

8 a.m. — Swine show
8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. — Check-in commercial booths
9 a.m. to 7 p.m. — Commercial booths open
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Judge flower show

11 a.m. — Parade sponsored by the Mavericks Club
11:30 a.m. — Barbecue lunch sponsored by Torrance County 4-H Council
Noon — Presentation of parade awards at Arthur Park
2 p.m. — Presentation of awards and trophies
3 p.m. — Junior livestock sale at the Livestock Barn
3 p.m. to 6 p.m. — Check out of all exhibits
8 p.m. to midnight — Country dance at the Estancia Community Center, $5 per person
