      Hot Dog Contest Part Of July 4th Event
DJ's Doghouse in Edgewood will be having a special Independence Day event on Friday that will include a car show and family fun.
    But what would the Fourth of July be without a hot dog eating contest? DJ's will be sponsoring an eating contest starting at 2 p.m. First place in the contest will earn $50. The winner will be the person who can eat the most hot dogs in a 10-minute span. Last year's winner ate 13½ hot dogs.
    This is the second year for the event.

    Geocaching, Picnics Among Center Events
The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center will open its doors to the public on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering visitors 5½ miles of trails, picnicking, geocaching, two hands-on exhibit rooms, and a wildlife observation deck.
    Although trails in the Cibola National Forest are closed, the trail at the center will be open.
    A plant identification training session will take place from 10 to 11 a.m.

    Register To Vote Or Adopt a Pet at Market
The Animal Humane Association will have a representative on hand at the Tijeras Open-Air Arts Market with pets to adopt on Saturday.
    The market is free.
    In conjunction with Independence Day, a voter registration representative will be at the arts market from noon to 4 p.m.
    The Tijeras Arts Market features arts, crafts and international vendors each weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Just Imagine Gallery at 488 Old Route 66 in Tijeras. The fair includes live music and artist demonstrations.
