    Sept. Plane Crash Report Released
The factual report of the crash and subsequent fire that occurred in September of a Cessna single-engine airplane at Moriarty Municipal Airport has been released.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board report, the airplane was registered to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The flight instructor pilot suffered serious injuries, and the pilot trainee died in the crash.
A witness saw the airplane performing several “touch and go maneuvers on runway 26,” the report says.
The plane appeared to be set up for a short-field landing when it seemed to flare and then dropped onto the runway. The plane bounced, became airborne again and then stalled.
Shortly after the plane landed, it burst into flames.
The instructor pilot got out of the plane and tried to help the pilot trainee out of the left side of the airplane.
The cause of death for the pilot trainee was blunt force injury of the head.

    Woman Promoted To Roosevelt Head
Cee Kaye Nation has been promoted to principal at Roosevelt Middle School. She had been an assistant principal at the East Mountain school during the 2007-08 school year.

Nation has been working for APS for 24 years. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of New Mexico, she taught second and third grade at Kirtland Elementary. She also taught at Hodgin, Bellehaven, Matheson Park and John Baker elementaries.
She made the move to middle school in 1999, teaching language arts and literature at Hoover. For three years, she served as the instructional coach at S.Y. Jackson Elementary. She earned her master's degree in educational leadership in 2006.
“I aspire to lead a team that helps every child reach their full potential,” Nation said. “A young adult is our most treasured resource, and they deserve to be empowered to make confident choices about their education and how they are going to make this world a better place.”
