Truck Driver Finds Body
By Lee Ross /
Mountain View Telegraph
A propane delivery driver and his co-worker discovered a body in the Edgewood area Tuesday.
The skeletal remains indicate the body may have been there anywhere from a month to a year, said Sgt. Andrew Tingwall, a spokesman for the New Mexico State Police.
Tingwall said investigators had not found anything to indicate how the death occurred,
“It's unknown if foul play is involved,” Tingwall said.
The body was discovered by drivers for New Mexico Propane, who apparently contacted authorities. The drivers could not be contacted before press time.
The remains were on Barton Road near the border of southern Santa Fe County and Bernalillo County.
“It's a pretty mountainous area,” said Lt. Ramon Casaus of the New Mexico State Police.
In an interview Wednesday, he said an autopsy, which may determine the approximate age, height and weight of the deceased, was being performed. The only other detail he gave was that a pair of sneakers and pants were found in the area.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department responded to the call, but because the body was found near the county line, it handed the investigation over to New Mexico State Police, according to Santa Fe County Undersheriff Robert Garcia.
Garcia said he can't remember when another body was found in the area recently.
The New Mexico State Police are putting a missing persons alert out to the news media. Anyone who may have information on the case should contact the criminal investigation section of the New Mexico State Police at 841-9271.
