Nature-Related Events Planned
Bernalillo County Commissioner Michael Brasher and other representatives from the county are holding a meeting today at 6:30 p.m. at Los Vecinos Community Center to discuss fire preparedness.
The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center will open its doors to the public Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will offer visitors 5½ miles of trails, picnicking, geocaching, two hands-on exhibit rooms, and a wildlife observation deck. For the bird lovers, there will be a special presentation on “Birds of the Sandias” that will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Voters Invited To Political Forum
The Concerned Citizens will sponsor a political forum this Saturday at the old County Courthouse, 205 Ninth Street in Estancia.
Social hour is from 1 to 2 p.m. with desserts, music, silent auction and a candidate greeting.
The forum begins at 2 p.m. After candidates speeches, written questions will be answered.

Band Tijerina Set To Play Blackie's
Blues-rock band Tijerina will be playing at Blackie's in Moriarty on Friday and Saturday.
The band is led by Todd Tijerina and has garnered positive reviews for its latest release, “The Lowdown,” and live performances all over the world.
Todd Tijerina's credits include working as a guitarist for internationally revered blues veteran Byther Smith, the legendary Harmonica Hinds, and B.B. King's daughter, Shirley King. Tijerina is based in Albuquerque, though the band is originally from Chicago.
Blackie's is at 612 Old Route 66 in Moriarty. Tijerina's shows are set to start at 8:30 p.m.
Family Fun Day Has Blood Drive
There will be a Family Fun Day and Community Blood Drive at the First Baptist Church of Tijeras on Saturday. The blood drive will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Donors can go to www.unitedbloodservices.org to self schedule or they can call PJ Baker at 281-3709.
The Family Fun Day will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be offered. The event will feature bounce houses for the kids, volleyball and basketball games.
Aspects of Clay Plans Fair, Sale
Aspects of Clay will hold its Spring Arts and Crafts Fair and Sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The show will feature ceramics, paintings, fiber arts, wood sculpture and more.
Hours for the fair are noon to 6 p.m. May 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 3 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 4.

Art Auction, Fundraiser Set
“The Wild Bunch” is an art auction and fundraiser sponsored by the Turquoise Trail Preservation Trust on Saturday with an art preview starting at 4 p.m.
The auction will be at the Overlook Community Center at Turquoise Drive and N.M. 14. It's $10 to enter and there will be a raffle, hors d'oeuvres, wine and other beverages.
Station Accepts Garden Waste
The East Mountain Transfer Station on Old Route 66 east of N.M. 14 is taking green waste — such as grass, garden or hedge trimmings — from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for free through Sunday.
All loads must be covered. Call 281-9110 for more information.
White Collar Crime Prevention Event
The Edgewood Masonic Lodge will hold a white collar crime prevention seminar on Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
