The 5-foot-7 junior guard was on fire in the Bears' state Class 2A girls tournament first-round game on Friday. She sank eight — yes, eight — 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points to lead Estancia to a 60-48 victory over visiting Eunice.

Ortiz's sharp shooting and the entire squad's hustling defense propelled the Bears into the state quarterfinals.

Desirae, who resides in the Torrance County seat, is the daughter of Anna Marie and Dan Ortiz.
