Clowns, shingles vaccine, animal care — it's all part of the annual Partnership for a Healthy Torrance County Health Fair on Saturday.

The event will be held at the Moriarty Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each year, the PHTC puts on the event to give a host of information to county residents, according to Billie Clark, programs manager for the Torrance County Project Office. Funding for the event comes from the state Department of Health, Public Health Division, Clark said.

"Most of the services at the health fair are free," Clark said. "We want to invite everyone out to learn about a lot of local resources."

Entertainment from Zipper the clown will be in store, plus face painting and storytelling for the kids.

Services at the fair are for all ages, from child identification for youngsters to free shingles vaccine for those over age 60. H1N1 vaccine will also be on hand, Clark said, with pharmacists there to do medication checks. Humans aren't the only ones that will benefit from the fair, Clark said: The Torrance County Animal Shelter also will be there to offer information on taking care of pets.

Other offerings include Medicaid and state coverage insurance application assistance, hearing screenings for kids, information on pregnancy services, parenting classes, counseling, drug and alcohol counseling, literacy programs, and much more.

"It's a host of health and social service resources within the county," Clark said. "We hope people will come out and have some fun."
