Torrance Kids Can Go on Field Trips
The TNT Summer Fun 2009 will begin Wednesday. Every Wednesday, Torrance County kids will have the opportunity to spend the day at places like Santa Rosa Park Lake, an ice skating rink, at the zoo, at an Isotopes game and more. The bus leaves Estancia Middle School at 9 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m. Parent chaperones are needed to accompany the kids. Lock and Load For SASS' End of Trail The Single Action Shooting Society's big event, End of Trail, is coming up. There will be more than 100 exhibitors, music, live entertainment and lots of shooting events. The event is on Founders Ranch, which is on Barton Road south of Interstate 40, and will be open to the general public from June 25 to 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 877-411-SASS (7277) or go to www.sassnet.com. Science Camp Has 3 Sessions Talking Talons Youth Leadership is having its Science Adventure Camp, a two-week event that features hawks, falcons, owls, bats, reptiles, field trips, hikes, art and sports. The camp is for ages 6 to 12 and runs in three two-week sessions: from June 15 to 26, from July 13 to 24 and from August 3 to 14. The cost is $300 and sibling discounts are available. Students Follow Camp With Play "Upside Down, Some (fairly accurate) Tales," the performance following a three-week summer camp for theater students at The East Mountain Center for Theatre will run June 27 at 7 p.m. and June 28 at 2 p.m. at The Vista Grande Community Center. Tickets are $5 for all ages, and can be purchased at www.eastmountaintheatre.org or by calling 286-1950. "Upside Down" is a series of familiar fairy or children's stories with a twist to them. There are 11 stories plus some dancing, and the cast, ages 7 to 13, will play a variety of roles. Hug a Horse At Ranch on July 11 The Walkin N Circles Ranch will be holding its sixth annual Hug A Horse Celebration on July 11. The free event will feature a giant yard sale, a parade of painted ponies, horse training demonstrations, pony rides, a bake sale, vendors, and live music by Sons of the Rio Grande, Jimbo and Fiddler Bill. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ranch, which is located nine miles north of Edgewood off N.M. 344. All proceeds will benefit the rescued horses at the ranch. Call 286-0779 for more information. Beginners Art Class at Library Ke'vin Bowers will be holding a beginners art class in oil pastels, color value and more. The cost is $25, which includes the cost of supplies, and registration for the class will be through Saturday, or until the all the spaces are filled. Roosevelt Hosts Wildfest in July Talking Talons Youth leadership will hold Wildfest, a community education day, on July 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Roosevelt Middle School in Tijeras. Attendees can learn about the environment and wildlife, and there will also be a health fair. Talking Talons is accepting registration forms for booth space, which is available free to educational, wildlife, environmental, entertainment and health services groups, and for a fee to retail and food vendors. for more information. Meet League Of Women Voters The League of Women Voters will hold an informational meeting June 27 near Mountainair. The meeting will take place in a private home from 1 to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in learning more about the league is encouraged to attend. Blues Fest To Aid Wildlife West Park Anasazi Fields Winery hosts a blues festival to benefit Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood each summer and this year is no exception. But this year, Gathering of Spirits will be held at the park instead of at the winery. Gathering of Spirits will take place in the amphitheater of Wildlife West Nature Park from noon until 6 p.m. on June 27. The $10 admission fee includes entry to the park, wine tasting and an Anasazi Fields logo glass. Musicians playing will be Ann Ahlander, Stagefright Slim and Stan Hirsch.
